Finding Strength in Faith: My Journey Through the Bible
Reading the Bible from start to finish is no small task, but for me, it has been a deeply personal and transformative journey. With all the daily struggles I face—especially living with fibromyalgia—this commitment has given me a sense of purpose, strength, and healing.
A Promise to My Father
I started this journey in 2021 after losing my father, Anthony Fisher, to heart failure at the age of 68. He was my protector, my rock, and my greatest supporter. My dad loved to speak in parables, always quoting scripture and finding ways to teach life lessons through the Word of God. I was a daddy’s girl through and through, and his passing left a hole in my heart that nothing could fill. I didn’t want to fall into bitterness or blame God for taking him away, so instead, I made a decision—I wanted to draw closer to God.
Every single day, for over three years, I committed to reading a chapter of the Bible. I joined a prayer line twice a week, engaged in Bible studies, and made faith an active part of my life. This consistency changed everything. Through the ups and downs, through grief and pain, I found peace in His Word.
Strength Through Scripture
The Bible is full of reminders that even in our hardest moments, we are never alone. Here are a few verses that have carried me through my journey:
-
Isaiah 41:10 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
-
2 Corinthians 12:9 – “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
-
Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
-
Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
These verses remind me that God is always with me, even on my hardest days.
Faith, Fibromyalgia & Finding Purpose
Living with fibromyalgia is an ongoing battle. The pain, fatigue, and brain fog can make even the simplest tasks feel impossible. But one thing I’ve learned is that having something meaningful to focus on can make all the difference.
On the days when my body ached and my energy was gone, Bible study became my refuge. Even during a flare-up, opening the Bible gave me something to look forward to, something to keep my mind engaged. It was a moment in my day when I wasn’t just a person in pain—I was a child of God, growing in faith and understanding. And on the days when I felt like giving up, my commitment to this journey kept me going.
It’s incredible how faith and purpose can ease suffering. While reading the Bible didn’t take my pain away, it gave me strength to endure. It reminded me that even in the darkness, there is light.
Gratitude & The Journey Ahead
I may still face struggles, but I refuse to let them define me. My journey with the Bible has strengthened my relationship with God, given me clarity in my grief, and helped me cope with fibromyalgia in ways I never expected.
I am grateful—for my family, for the ability to wake up each day, and for the lessons I’ve learned through this experience. My journey isn’t over, and I look forward to continuing to grow in faith.
To anyone facing struggles, whether it’s chronic illness, loss, or emotional battles, I encourage you to find that one thing that anchors you. Whether it’s faith, a creative passion, or a purpose bigger than yourself—hold onto it. It can make all the difference.
