Turning 40 with Fibromyalgia: A Birthday to Remember in Dubai
Birthdays feel different when you’re living with chronic pain. The body doesn’t always cooperate with the celebration, and pacing becomes essential. But turning 40 in Dubai? That was something I’ll never forget.
I started the morning gently—because let’s be honest, living with fibromyalgia means there’s no rushing into the day. After some light movement and a moment of stillness, I got dressed up and headed to the first stop: Seventy Seven at The Address Hotel.
This rooftop space was everything—cool breeze, beautiful skyline views, and a relaxed atmosphere. It felt peaceful, grounding, and the perfect start to a birthday when your body is a little unpredictable. If you live with chronic illness, you know how important it is to find calm spaces—and this one delivered.
Later that afternoon, we celebrated with a brunch at Mi Amie. And let me tell you—it was magical. From the vibrant atmosphere to the thoughtful touches like blankets if you get cold (yes, please!), it was perfect for someone with chronic illness needs. The staff were warm, accommodating, and never made me feel like I had to explain my limitations.
We laughed, we ate amazing food, and we watched the sunset over the city skyline. It was one of those rare days where the pain didn’t get the final say.
Living with fibromyalgia has taught me that joy doesn’t always come easy—but it’s still possible. You may have to go slower. You may need more rest. But that doesn’t make your celebration any less beautiful.

💜 If you’re living with fibromyalgia or chronic pain and wondering if travel is still possible—it is. You just do it differently. With pacing, planning, and self-compassion.
This birthday wasn’t just about turning 40. It was about reclaiming joy, honouring my body, and choosing to celebrate life in the way that works for me.
